About

I’m an editor, writer, and communications strategist with more than 15 years of experience in the nonprofit and higher education fields, including substantial work with organizations in the criminal legal system.

I’m best at taking complex, nuanced material, such as research findings, policy analysis, and program data, and making it clear and credible for the people who need to understand it, without flattening what makes it matter.

My background

I’ve worked in house and as a consultant for organizations including the Vera Institute of Justice, the National Black Women’s Justice Institute, and CUNY.

I’ve also worked an ESL teacher in New York City and China. Teaching English to non-native speakers taught me to explain things plainly and to notice exactly where a reader gets lost. I still edit that way.

How I work

  • I respect your voice. I make your writing stronger without making it sound like someone else.
  • I’m reliable. I communicate clearly and deliver when I say I will.
  • I ask the right questions. Understanding your audience and goals comes before touching a word.

A bit about me

I grew up in rural Illinois, lived in China, spent ten years in New York City, and spent several more in Tennessee. Today I work remotely from the Pacific Northwest and regularly work with clients across time zones.

Outside of work, you’ll find me hiking, weaving, baking, or rereading an Octavia Butler novel.
